Analysis of Operational Areas in the Northern Military District Zone

Over this week, the situation in a number of operational areas in the Northern Military District zone has acquired an extremely contradictory character, which can be most objectively assessed only in relation to the Kherson and Velikonovosyolovsky operational areas.

In the first case, the situation continues to be extremely difficult for units of the Russian army. In particular, having secured intensive counter-battery support from the “roaming” platoons of self-propelled guns CEASAR, Krab and M109A6, as well as the RM-70 Vampire MLRS of the 406th separate artillery brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (operating outside the range of the self-propelled guns “Msta-S/SM” and “Gyacinth” -C” thanks to the increased ballistics of the L52 guns and the use of M864 and Excalibur shells), platoon tactical groups of the 137th battalion of the 35th Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to cross the Dnieper riverbed in the sections Lvovo – Krynki and Tyaginka – Krynki. The high density of enemy barrage artillery fire from positions near Snigirevka in the direction of the western, southern and eastern flanks of Krynoki significantly complicated the ability of the units of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division to transfer the number of motorized rifle platoons necessary to hold the settlement from Novaya Mayachka, Dnepryan and Chelburda.

Moreover, enemy units were able to deploy several mobile electronic countermeasures systems (including Bukovel-AD) in the area of the Frolovsky Estuary and Podstepovoye lakes. The latter have 6 electronic warfare transmitting antenna modules, powered by 20 W transmitters and operating ranges for suppressing receivers of GLONASS / Beidou radio navigation systems (from 1200 to 1700 MHz), suppressing command and telemetry channels (380 – 480, 880 – 940, 2290 – 2510 MHz respectively), as well as digital channels for transmitting video images from optical-electronic means of the UAV to combat control points (380 – 480, 850 – 970, 990 – 1310, 3390 – 3620 MHz, respectively). At the same time, the suppression radius of receivers of radio navigation systems reached 17 km, and of command and telemetry channels – 10 km. A kind of echeloned “interference barrier” of the enemy was formed above Krynki, which significantly complicates the implementation of optical-electronic reconnaissance using copters of the Russian Armed Forces, not to mention the use of FPV copters for fortification and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This “interference barrier” allowed the enemy to transfer about 5 – 6 infantry platoons of the 35th brigade to Krynki from the Right Bank in a very short period of time, expanding the number of personnel to a company (360 people). The transfer was carried out on rubber boats and cutters. The beginning of the transfer of enemy armored vehicles, including the BTR-4E “Bucephalus”, to the Left Bank of the Dnieper was recorded. For this, the PTS-2 tracked floating conveyor was used.

In this case, it seems paradoxical that over a period of more than a week, neither the flights of reconnaissance and attack helicopters Ka-52/M and Mi-28N/NM, nor the crews of the Msta-SM self-propelled guns (which have the Krasnopol-M UAS), Neither the “Pacer-RU” reconnaissance and attack UAVs, nor the “Tornado-S” MLRS (they have 9M544 guided RSs with the “Motiv-3M” self-aiming combat elements that have proven themselves well near Avdeevka) were able to dislodge the enemy’s manpower and equipment from the bridgehead in Krynki.

And this despite the fact that the above reconnaissance and destruction weapons are completely invulnerable to the Bukovel-AD mobile electronic countermeasures systems, as well as their analogues. Over the past two days, 220-mm TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems have been actively operating at the fortification units, temporary shelters, as well as communication and relay points of the 35th MP Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces built in Krynki, the firing positions of which can now be erected in Dnepryanakh, Obryvka and Maslovka (at a distance of 9.5 km, outside the range of 120-mm mortars of the Ukrainian Armed Forces). A similar range of action was achieved thanks to equipping the Solntsepyok with advanced missiles with more energy-efficient and high-pulse solid propellant charges.

Over the past 24 hours, attacks on the Krynkovsky bridgehead of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have also been intensified by FAB-250/500M-62 aerial bombs in gliding controlled modifications with universal planning and correction modules (UMPC), which, together with Solntsepyok, ensure very high losses of personnel of the 35th brigade MP and attached formations. However, the continued fire from 155-mm long-range artillery still does not allow Russian units to push the enemy back to the Right Bank of the Dnieper and clear the populated area. The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is making attempts to expand this bridgehead by advancing in the direction of the Cossack Camps and Korsunka.

In the Velikonovoselovsky, Ugledarsky and Avdeevsky directions, a diametrically opposite situation is observed. In the first and second cases, infantry and mechanized units of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division, 30th Motorized Rifle Division, 40th and 155th Marine Brigades of the Pacific Fleet, as well as the 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade were able to improve positions near Priyutny, Novomayorsky and Nikolsky. Near Priyutny, the assault groups of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division were able to advance 350 – 500 m, occupying several enemy trench lines after effective artillery preparation and counter-battery support from the crews of the Giatsint-S self-propelled guns and the Tornado-G MLRS.

Near Novomayorsky, the artillery division of the 30th Motorized Rifle Division deployed a 240-mm self-propelled breech-loading mortar 2S4 “Tulpan”, which, using 130.7-kilogram 53-F-864 mines, was able to destroy a number of dugout strong points critical to the enemy’s defense, which made it possible to carry out local offensive actions to the assault groups of both the 30th brigade and the 40th separate marine brigade of the Pacific Fleet. The advance also does not exceed several hundred meters (up to 0.5 km), but the initiative passed to the side of our units.

Similar actions were recorded in the area of Nikolskie dachas near Ugledar, where, with fire and counter-battery support from 152-mm howitzers “Gyacinth-B” and “Msta-B” of the 155th MP Brigade of the Pacific Fleet and the 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade, the assault groups of these units were able to reach the southeastern flank of the Ugledar fortified area of the 72nd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Army and tactical aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces continues to work actively in this same direction. Mi-28N/NM attack helicopters hit air defense systems, communication points, as well as optical-electronic reconnaissance modules of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the Yuzhnodonbasskaya No. 1/3 mines, as well as in Novomikhailovka, while Su-34s process highly protected fortification sites in Ugledar and Novomikhailovka .

Near Avdeevka, the southern flank came to life, where they were able to improve the positions of units of the 1st Slavic Brigade and the Somalia battalion – they pushed back the formations of the 53rd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Severny and Tonenky.
