Tesla has just updated the technical specifications of the Model S and X. The two electric cars will now charge faster. In fact, they will be able to take full advantage of the 250 kW charging power of the Supercharger v3.

Last year, Tesla announced that only the Model 3 would benefit from the 250 kW of power from Supercharger v3. For comparison, the older generation Supercharger was limited to 150 kW. This power reduces the charging time of electric cars by a few minutes. On the Model 3, 250 kW are reached from a charge level of 5%. Just wait less than four minutes to reach 24% load at 250 kW. The power then gradually decreases.
Tesla: using Superchargers would damage the battery
The loading power of the Model S and Model X finally reaches that of the Model 3
Last month, Tesla rolled out software update to reduce Model S and Model X charge times. The most recent models of these two cars could then benefit from 225 kW. It wasn’t the total power that the Supercharger v3 could offer, but it was better than nothing.
The charging time of the Model S and X has just been further reduced. According to our colleagues from Electrek, Tesla changed the technical specifications of Model S and Model X posted on his site. The charging power is now at 250 kW. This time around, it would seem that it is not through a software update that cars will be able to take advantage of the charging power.
According to Electrek, this only affects new cars. Elon Musk has confirmed that changes had to be made to both models in order to reach 250 kW. Tesla has ” increased certain thicknesses of the cables of the S / X models to reduce the resistive type heating ” This change may well help boost sales of Model S and Model X.
