The screenwriter of Doctor Strange 2 teases the possibility of a series or a movie centered on America Chavez. Spoilers.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced a new character to the Marvel universe: America Chavez played by Xochitl Gomez. The young Marvel heroine is an important character in the new sequel due to her power to travel across the multiverse by opening a star-shaped portal.
In the film, it was established that Chavez is the only version of herself across the multiverse. The film’s screenwriter, Michael Waldron, previously teased that“She is a very important being in the universe” and that his potential status of being Nexus would be discussed ” while [Marvel continue] to explore its history.
Now, the screenwriter has once again discussed the sequel for Chavez, hinting that the character will eventually have his own solo project.
We won’t go into details, but one of the unresolved points of the film concerns America’s moms who disappeared and we imagine that the MCU will continue to explore its history: “Yeah, it’s definitely my collaboration with Marvel and with Sam [Raimi]. Really, it’s as much about trying to drive America’s story in this movie as it is about trying to set up a mystery to solve in the future. He’s someone without a family. That’s what she’s looking for. »
At the end of the film, Chavez finally finds a place in Kamar-Taj, but Waldron teased that they also “set up the next chapter” of the character’s story in the process: “And that’s what she finds – amazingly – in our Doctor Strange and Wong. She finds her place in Kamar-Taj at the end. When it’s all over, things look pretty clean. We also set up the next chapter in the America Chavez story. »
Regarding America’s moms, he explains that this story came later in the process: “Getting into the specificity of her with her parents came a bit later in the process. It seemed to me, at least initially, that maybe we should withhold some of it. These were the kinds of things you’d rather answer when you embark on America’s single-player story. But as we continued to build the story, we found that we wanted to know more about her. And, really, Strange would like to know more about her. It was just being honest about their relationship and their conversations. »
We are waiting to see where and when America Chavez will reappear in the MCU.
