An iPhone with Face ID, like OnePlus 8, can see through and through. Reedus

The Face ID system in modern iPhones allows the front camera to shine through plastic objects and take photos through them. Previously, such a feature was found in OnePlus 8.

Guillermo Rimbaud, an authoritative insider, said on his Twitter account that current generations of Apple iPhone smartphones, starting with the iPhone X, can take photos by revealing plastic. This is due to the TrueDepth sensor, thanks to which the Face ID system of the front camera is able to unlock the smartphone in the face of the user. To confirm this, the insider published photos of the Apple TV set-top box taken with this camera.

It is worth noting that not all iPhone users have this feature available. This is because iOS is a closed system. Therefore, some features are available only to developers and users who have jailbroken their device.

Initially, this feature was discovered in the recently announced OnePlus 8 smartphone. Its main camera is able to shine through objects made of plastic, glass, as well as water. The thing is the photochromic filter of the camera, which is capable of capturing infrared radiation, invisible to the human eye. An infrared wave passes through some objects, allowing the OnePlus 8 to see through them.

Of course, this is not the most sought-after feature for a smartphone, because until that moment they did not even pay attention to it. However, sometimes it can be useful, for example, it can be used to shine through banknotes, which will facilitate the determination of their authenticity. But still, for most users, this feature will be useless.
