There was a long argument about the future of Statistics Austria. The (red) head of the federal agency resigned in November. But now calm should return to Austria’s great wealth of data.
Statistics, a dry matter? Not at all. Especially not when it comes to Statistics Austria. The company has long had a certain entertainment value for the interested public: message control was accused of the Federal Chancellery, which is responsible for Statistics Austria. Then the long-time boss, who was close to the SPÖ, said goodbye Konrad Pesendorfer, with vocal criticism – to head the Saudi Arabian statistical office of all places, where independence is certainly a priority. Statistics Austria was therefore managed on an interim basis for months. But now calm should come again. A new boss has been found.
