an association takes legal action

In a press release, One Voice, an animal defense association, denounces the choice of the Charente-Maritime prefecture to authorize the slaughter of one of the three wolves escaped from the Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan refuge, near Niort since November 13 and located in the department. In reaction, the association filed, Friday, December 4, an appeal for abuse of power, and this morning, December 5, an interim suspension to the Poitiers administrative court so that this decision can be annulled as soon as possible.

The State must mobilize more resources to capture them unharmed, continue the representatives of One Voice. Attempts for these captures (by trapping and drones) have only been deployed for two weeks. Alternatives should be put in place to capture them, including beyond the vicinity of the sanctuary, especially since they are used to being fed by humans. The authorities’ response to the various problems linked to the presence of wild animals can no longer and should not be to kill them. As for protected animals such as wolves, they cannot be protected only when they are absent and be exterminated when they reappear.

As a reminder, of the three escaped wolves, two are still on the run. The last one died after hitting a car.
