Americans are moving less and less

In the 1950s, one in five Americans moved once a year. But this share has recently been halved and is now less than 10 percent. The self-image of a nation “on the move” no longer has much in common with reality.

That happened: American society is so flexible that people move to wherever there is work and house prices are still cheap: This is a cliché that is not only heard abroad about American society, but also shapes the self-image of Americans. The country is constantly on the move, “on the move”. The fact that newcomers can quickly make friends is also associated with this characteristic of the USA.
