American Woman Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Beard with PCOS Hormonal Disorder

An American has broken the record for the longest beard on a woman, writes Guinness World Records. The beard of 38-year-old Erin Honeycutt, who has the hormonal disorder PCOS, was 30 centimeters long.

PCOS leads to multiple fluid vesicles in the ovary. This allows a woman to produce more of the male hormone testosterone than normal. This in turn can lead to excessive hair growth.

In Honeycutt’s case, hair has been growing on her chin since she was thirteen. She tried everything over the years to control hair growth, but nothing worked. “I sometimes shaved three times a day,” she tells Guinness World Records.

In the end, in consultation with her friend, but also because she was tired of daily shaving, she decided to let the beard grow. With that, she broke a world record in February of this year, when the goatee was 30 centimeters long. The old record was held by 75-year-old Vivian Wheeler: 25.5 centimeters.

The beard, according to Honeycutt, is both a blessing and a curse. “The hair hides my double chin, but it gets caught in everything.”
