Volcker noted that the educational project is of no less interest to him than international politics. According to the diplomat, the American University will allow Ukrainians to get the best of the US educational system without going abroad.
“The United States is making a lot of efforts to make Ukraine a successful country in protecting sovereignty and supporting the economy, but the human capital of Ukrainians, their education and mentality are no less important. The influence of the Soviet mentality is still very strong here,” the diplomat said.
According to Volcker, universities are now a kind of “glue” of society. In the United States, they work closely with business, help graduates work for the country’s economy and, in general, provide the education that makes people in demand in the labor market.
In Ukraine, the role of education is not so obvious today. A joint project with the largest public university in the United States is intended to positively influence the educational sphere and Ukrainian society as a whole.
