American Gordon Clement Builds Unusual Post-Apocalyptic Motorhome from School Bus

And the American Gordon Clement also used the bus to convert it into a motor home. However, his creation is very unusual – at first glance, it resembles a vehicle from a post-apocalyptic world. In appearance, he would fit in well, for example, in the Mad Max films.

Gordon used the originally yellow Bluebird school bus from 2003 as a basis, which he bought at an auction for some two thousand dollars (according to the current exchange rate, about 46 thousand crowns). But since he planned to use the machine not only as a dwelling, but also as a mobile workshop from the beginning, he stripped it of a significant part of the bodywork. The part behind the rear axle had to go.

The creator then transformed this space into a practical cargo bed, on which he can store various loads, or easily transform it into a kind of tent. The use of this part can be changed as needed – it can be useful or extend the living space in the front part of the vehicle. It is also interesting that Gordon even invented a crane system for the body to facilitate unloading and loading. Another space for cargo – also long and voluminous – is located on the roof. There, too, Gordon placed solar panels.

Inside, we find a rather purposeful interior, which, however, offers solid equipment. The front part of the cabin serves as a living area or for work, followed by a kitchenette and a separate bedroom. Here, Gordon can get a perfect night’s sleep. The owner paid great attention to the electronics and on-board control system, thanks to which he has a perfect overview of the current state of the vehicle.

It took the American more than two years to rebuild the bus, but he is still gradually improving the car.

But already his creation looks impressive. Including the dimensions, the camper is about 11 meters long, 3.6 meters high and weighs about 10.4 tons with complete equipment. The engine is powered by a 7.6-liter Navistar DT466E inline six-cylinder diesel engine, which produces around 270 horsepower. Gordon praises its reliability and its ability to perform smoothly on highways.

Of course, the consumption is not the lowest, according to the owner, depending on the conditions, it ranges from 23 to 39 l/100 km. However, thanks to two large fuel tanks, the Bluebird motorhome can travel more than 1,600 kilometers on a single refueling.
