American bombers fly here – passed Stockholm and Uppsala

It is a B-1B Lancer and B-52 Stratofortress escorted by Swedish Jas 39 Gripen. During Wednesday, they passed large parts of Swedish airspace according to the Swedish Armed Forces.

– We are doing this to create security, to show that we can protect Swedish territory together with others, says Louise Levin, communications manager at the Air Staff of the Swedish Armed Forces.

Where and when can you see the American bombers?

During Tuesday at lunchtime, the plane could be seen passing the Avicii arena and the Central Bridge in Stockholm in a northerly direction, and then flying past Arlanda and the Uppsala garrison.

The plane flew low, about 900 meters instead of 9,000 which is normal for exercises like this.

– Normally you fly at a much higher altitude, but we fly this low because it is important to show that we practice together, that people see what we are doing, says Louise Levin.

That is why the bombers fly over Sweden

The flight is part of a joint exercise between Sweden and the United States that has been planned for a long time, according to the Norwegian Defense Forces. The purpose is to practice the defense of Sweden and cooperation with other nations.

After leaving Swedish airspace, the plane will join the NATO exercise Nordic Response.
