American Actor Mark Margolis Dies at 83: Best Known for His Role as Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad

American actor Mark Margolis died on Thursday at the age of 83, American media report. Margolis was best known for his role as the striking, bell-ringing Hector Salamanca in the series Breaking Bad.

Hector ‘Tío’ Salamanca is one of the standout characters in the series, which revolves around a chemistry teacher who starts making and selling crystal meth.

Tío is one of the members of the Salamanca drug cartel and runs the empire from his wheelchair in a nursing home. The character does not talk; he mainly communicates with a bell on his wheelchair. The role earned Margolis an Emmy nomination in 2012.

Margolis broke through with his role in Scarface. In it he played villain and bodyguard Alberto The Shadow. He also had roles in films such as Noah, Black Swan, The Wrestler in Pi. In addition, he played in more than fifty plays, including Uncle Sam in The Golem.

“He was unique. We will never see anyone like him again,” says his manager Robert Kolker. “He was a cherished partner and a lifelong friend. I was lucky enough to know him.”

Margolis’ family said he died on Thursday after a short illness in a hospital in New York.
