AMD Ryzen 3 3100 reaches almost 6 GHz

If you look at the absolute clock records for the processors, then the models that are a bit out of date, such as the FX-8150, are extremely enthusiastic. Almost 9 GHz is possible – of course not in stable operation. A current Intel CPU like the Core i9-9900K has a maximum clock of 7.6 GHz and a Ryzen 9 3950X at 6 GHz.

Due to the production in 7 nm, the Zen-2 architecture plus the package design and many other framework conditions, operation is no longer possible at around 6 GHz. As I said, the fastest benchmarks are run in the 5.5 to 5.8 GHz range anyway.

Yesterday AMD launched the small quad-core models Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X. We have a detailed test report for both processors released.

AMD Ryzen 3 3100 at 5,923 MHz

It is therefore not surprising that the first results are now also available for these two models. However, these also show the limits that the processors are made on the basis of design and manufacture. A clock of exactly 5,923.62 MHz was achieved with a Ryzen 3 3100.

Such clock rates are of course only possible with the help of extreme cooling methods. As is so often the case, liquid nitrogen is used so that the processor is operated at -150 to -170 ° C.

There is more information in HWBot entry of the result. Processors in this state and with such cooling are of course not sensible to use. Though the Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X are quite tactful in practical conditionsHowever, this does not change the basic requirements for these processors.
