“AMD Introduces Radeon RX 7600: A Budget Graphic Card with RDNA 3 Architecture and HW Acceleration of AV1 Video”

After Nvidia introduced the new GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti, here we have a mainstream attack from AMD. In his case, it is a basic model Radeon RX 7600, which is built on the RDNA 3 architecture and offers, for example, HW acceleration of AV1 video. AMD boasts that it will offer 27% better results compared to the previous generation in the PugetBench benchmark, which tests performance in DaVinci Resolve (here it achieved a 27% increase in performance), Adobe After Effects (+19%) and Adobe Premiere Pro (+16%) ). With AMD Smart Access Video technology, performance in DaVinci Resolve can be increased by up to 36%. We have support for DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1a, 12-bit HDR and 8K video playback. There is also support for FidelityFX super resolution (FSR) technology.

The graphics card has 32 CUs with a Game Clock frequency of 2.25 GHz and a Boost Clock of even 2.66 GHz. We have 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, but it runs on a relatively narrow 128-bit bus, but in this it is no different from the aforementioned GeForce. We find the 32 MB Infinity Cache, which should make up for this (thanks to a larger cache, the main memory is not needed as often, and thus the negative effect of not very fast access to it is reduced). The bad news is the 165W TBP, which is 50W higher against the RTX 4060 and even 5W higher than the 8GB RTX 4060 Ti. On the contrary, the good news is the recommended price, which makes 269 USD, the lowest of the estimates that have appeared. While the RTX 4060 should start at 7,900 CZK with VAT, Radeon RX 7600s appear in Czech stores for around 7,300 CZK with VAT.

The first reviews have already been published, but according to them, it is quite difficult to compare the performance against the new GeForce (Nvidia only put the RTX 4060 Ti on sale and there are no reviews for the basic model yet). We see interesting results, for example, in the test from TechPowerUp. In Full HD, the novelty surpasses its predecessor RX 6600 by almost 27%, it is even faster than RX 6600 XT (+9%) and RX 6650 XT (+4%). It also outperforms the GeForce RTX 3060 card (+18%), on the other hand, the RTX 3060 Ti is 11% faster than it, and the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is even 25% faster. Here, however, it will be very interesting to see where the basic RTX 4060 ends up, which should be 10% more expensive than the Radeon. But in 4K, it loses its breath against GeForce. While in Full HD the Radeon RX 7600 had an 18% lead over the RTX 3060, in 4K they are already equal and the RTX 4060 Ti even gains 43% to the good.

In terms of consumption, the paper one is pretty bad. It is worse than the RTX 4060 Ti, while GeForce offers 25-43% higher performance depending on the resolution. However, Radeons reign supreme in consumption in idle mode, where it is only 2 W (the aforementioned three GeForce 7-11 W). When playing video, Radeon takes 27 W (GeForce 12 to 17 W), when playing it is 152 W. However, they also measured the much more powerful RTX 4060 Ti. On the other hand, it’s less than cards like the 6600 XT or RTX 3060. Again, it turns out that AMD’s efficiency isn’t quite the best, and in the battle of current architectures, Nvidia won.

Also other reviews like the one on TechSpotu, shows a similar or rather worse consumption than the RTX 4060 Ti. In terms of performance in 1080p, the new Radeon RX 7600 shows a lead of +24% against the RX 6600, +10% against the RX 6600 XT and +4% against the RX 6650 XT, in the case of Nvidia +11% against the RTX 3060, i.e. mostly quite similar results to the previous test (with the exception of GeForce, which had a bigger lead in the previous one). On the contrary, the RTX 3060 Ti showed +16% to the good, the RTX 4060 Ti by +26%.
