Actress Amber Heard is appealing the Virginia court’s ruling yesterday in the dispute with Johnny Depp. According to one of her lawyers, Johnny Depp’s legal team has kept a “huge amount of evidence” out of the case. She hopes that this material will be admitted on appeal.
Heard wrote in a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post that she was a victim of domestic violence. She didn’t name a name, but it was soon clear that she was accusing Depp, from whom she divorced in 2015. Depp took her to court and demanded $50 million. The Virginia court ruled in Depp’s favor yesterday: Heard must pay him $10 million, he pays her $2 million.
Heard’s lawyer points out that the evidence to which she refers has previously been admitted in the United Kingdom. That was in a case that Depp brought against The Sun in 2020. This tabloid had called Depp a woman abuser. Depp lost that case because the judge ruled that Depp’s violence against Heard was largely proven.
According to Heard’s lawyer, the Depp camp has learned from that case. “They thought: we need to demonize Amber and keep this evidence out of the case.” The jury in the Virginia court further calls them “confused.”
