Amazon has announced the two mesh routers eero 6 and eero Pro 6. The main difference from the regular eero mesh routers is that the eero 6 routers have support for Wi-Fi 6. The Pro 6 has support for two 5GHz bands and a longer range.
With the Wi-Fi 6 support, the mesh routers can according to Amazon deliver faster connections to multiple devices simultaneously. Both routers must be able to provide 75 devices with WiFi at the same time. The routers also get built-in Zigbee smart home hubs. Amazon does not report what speeds users can expect from the routers. According to a comparison page A single eero Pro 6 is suitable for 1Gbit / s connections, whereas an eero 6 router is suitable for 900Mbps connections. When using three mesh routers, the eero 6 is rated for 500Mbps connections, according to the page. The recommended connection remains a 1Gbit / s connection for three Pro 6 routers.
An eero 6 router must provide a range of 139 square meters. Who has two eero 6 mesh routers and the also new eero 6 mesh wifi extender can expect a range of up to 289 square meters. With three eero 6 routers and two extenders, a maximum range of 465 square meters is mentioned. An eero 6 Pro router gives a maximum range of 186 m², two eero 6 Pro routers gives 325 square meters and three eero 6 Pro routers gives a maximum of 557 square meters.
Both eero 6 routers have 2×2 2.4GHz antennas, the eero 6 has 2×2 5GHz antennas. The eero 6 Pro has 2×2 antennas for low frequencies in the 5GHz band and 4×4 antennas for high frequencies in the same band. The two routers also have 4GB of internal flash storage and quad-core processors. With the eero 6, this processor has a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, with the Pro variant this is 1.4 GHz. The memory of the eero 6 is 512MB, and that of the Pro is twice that.
Both routers have support for Bluetooth LE 5.0 and have two RJ-45 ports. The eero 6 measures 134.5×134.6×52.6mm, the Pro measures 99.4x97x61.5mm. The mesh routers are backward compatible with the earlier eero routers and, according to Amazon, require a smartphone for installation. Deliveries of the new routers will start later this year, it is not known whether the routers will also come to Belgium or the Netherlands.
