Amazon AWS: when the machine learns from geographical data

At its in-house re:invent 2022 exhibition, AWS showcased a number of products from the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and software architecture. The announcers closed the Amazon event in Las Vegas.

The Amazon SageMaker machine learning service, offered by AWS as a managed service, is getting several extensions: as a big innovation, the manufacturer announces the support of geographic data within the internal ML tool. With the extension, machine learning should be able to be used, for example, on GPS coordinates from any source. To do this, SageMaker offers pretrained deep learning models whose results and predictions are combined on a visualization interface.

According to the manufacturer there are also improvements for the collaborative use of SageMaker notebook instances as well as simplifications in terms of governance and some innovations in the field of analytics. Moreover The AWS blog provides detailed information on this. The new features of SageMaker are immediately available in all AWS Regions.

In the last keynote of the event, Amazon CTO Werner Vogels guided attendees through the world of event-driven architectures and announced a strategy on how the company wants to streamline event-driven application development. In this context, AWS new features for Step Functions Before.

The Visual Orchestrator Service should now enable parallel processing of workflows at scale, with up to 10,000x parallelism. In order not to overload subsequent systems that should process the output of Step Functions, the tool also offers an option to limit the output. The service is serverless and cloud-native and can therefore be put into operation without lengthy setup times. AWS initially offers only the switch function upgrade in ten cloud regions, including Frankfurt.

Also noteworthy is the announcement of AWS EventBridge Pipes. With the extension for AWS EventBridge, users should be able to connect different event-driven AWS services without developers having to write any code. The update is available to nearly all AWS customers, but not to users in the Zurich region.

Amazon also offers new services to developers to make their day-to-day work easier. AWS Application Composer is designed to greatly simplify the generation of IaaC code for serverless components with a graphical interface. With the new Amazon CodeCatalyst offering, AWS wants to combine many different functions under one roof in order to be able to handle entire development projects.
