Alza began to transfer card payment fees to customers, at least to corporate ones

Since July, Alza.cz has been charging fees for card payments, at least for corporate customers. The decision of the transaction has an impact on at least 30,000 companies and self-employed persons who pay on the e-shop with a stored company card, but also on one-off payments. On the situation pointed out today’s Hospodářské noviny.

When entering card data from the first six numbers, the e-shop payment gateway is able to recognize whether it is a personal account or a business or company account, and this is exactly what the store uses. The business justifies the decision by claiming that it introduced a fee in response to the amount of fees that it must pay to card associations (mainly Visa, Mastercard) and banks that issue cards in the case of payment by a corporate card. These fees can be more than 2% of the amount paid.

“We want card associations and payment card issuers to actively address this topic and set the same conditions as when using regular cards, so we decided on this seemingly unpopular step,” the daily quotes Jiří Ponrt, CFO of the store.

The normal card fee that the merchant pays can be divided into three amounts. 1. it is an interchange fee to the bank that issued the card. In the case of a personal card, it is regulated by a regulation of the European Union and cannot exceed 0.30 percent of the amount paid. However, for corporate and institutional cards, this fee is higher and ranges between 0.95 and 2.10%. Part 2 is the fee of the card association, which in the case of VISA makes a maximum of 0.1% of the transaction and 0.2% in the case of Mastercard. 3. there is a fee to the bank with which the merchant has his account, which is identical to the fee to the bank that issued the card.
