In a video posted on his social networks, businessman Álvaro Noboa announced this Saturday morning that he decided not to run as a presidential candidate for the 2021 elections.
The announcement comes a day after a judge from the Electoral Contentious Court annulled the cancellation of the Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante party and opened the possibility for Noboa to participate as a candidate.
Noboa said that although he is leading the polls, he decided “to continue leading the economic development of Ecuador” from his position as a businessman.
Yesterday, Sylka Sánchez, leader of Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante, anticipated that today, in the party’s primaries, Noboa’s binomial would be announced from among a shortlist that was being managed.
Noboa indicated that these elections are crucial for the country and that is why he takes a step aside so that a single united force is formed and fragmentation is not generated.

“On one side are those of us who believe in you, Ecuadorian and we know that we can unite to get ahead. On the other side, there are those who, using correista methods, want to keep you on the path that only leads to misery and destruction,” said the businessman.
The businessman, who at his party’s convention had been nominated to compete in the elections, urged unity. “We are going to win together,” said Noboa. (I)
