Almere is building a street made of recycled plastic

The municipality of Almere is one of the first places with a plastic road. Test roads have already been built in Giethoorn, Zwolle and Mexico City. For the time being, the construction will only be used in places where there is no large and heavy traffic.

“Recycled plastic is sustainable and it is a nice system because of the water storage part. We often suffer from flooding and that is why we opted for this solution,” Ilse Kuipers explains on behalf of the municipality. Broadcasting Flevoland.

It remains to be seen whether Almere will be filled with it. “We will first see how this pilot works out. We are still investigating another pilot with a bicycle path, but we want to wait for these results first.”

The construction of the road at the Middenhof is not yet finished. Plastic parking spaces will also follow next week.
