Alli Is Invisible Again, Mourinho Is Not Blamed

Jakarta

Jose Mourinho refused to be held responsible for its dimness Dele Alli. He even challenged Alli to reclaim his position in the first team Tottenham Hotspur.

Alli has slowly lost his position since Mourinho’s arrival as manager Tottenham Hotspur in November last year. His portion of play in the Premier League has decreased since mid-January.

Since against Watford on January 18, he has made only three full appearances. The 24-year-old midfielder has missed one game due to suspension, then three other games due to injury and has been sidelined for two matches.

Alli only played three times after the period lockdown due to a series of problems. That situation apparently continued into this season. Alli has only played once, and even then only 45 minutes of Tottenham’s first match against Everton.

The England national team midfielder was not brought in by Jose Mourinho for the match against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the Europa League qualification and against Southampton in the English League. Mourinho’s relationship with Alli on the other hand has drawn the spotlight.

In a Tottenham documentary entitled ‘All or Nothing‘which was worked on by Amazon, Mourinho is known to have mentioned Dele Alli lazy. But Mourinho emphasized that it was not his fault that the player had dimmed and was now invisible.

“Now there is a tendency that when a player performs well or not, the responsibility is given to the coaches, because they are treated properly. But I always feel 99% of the responsibility lies with the players,” Mourinho was quoted as saying Sky Sports.

“I have 1%, me and my staff, and the people who work with the players every day. We have 1% of that responsibility. 99% lies with them (the players),” he added.

Mourinho brought Alli for the away match to Shkendija, Friday (25/9/2020) early morning WIB, in the Europa League Third Qualification round. There has been no decision on whether Alli will be involved in that match, but Mourinho poses a challenge.

“Tomorrow he was selected for the squad, but no decision has yet been made about starting the match or being on the bench. But when he was selected, he had a chance to play,” he continued.

“If he’s on the pitch, whether for a minute or 90 minutes, he has to show us his performance, it’s that simple. There is no problem at all to bring him into the team and like any other player, performance is important,” said the Portuguese.
