The symptoms of Covid-19 can be quite non-specific. Now some allergy sufferers are wondering whether they have the disease or just hay fever.

After all, cough and shortness of breath are among the most common symptoms that include both diseases.
For weeks now, allergy sufferers have been struggling with watery and itchy eyes again. There was also a relationship between certain eye stimuli and corona, which makes it all the more difficult for those affected (TAG24 reported).
Nevertheless, according to experts, it is relatively easy to be able to make a precise difference between hay fever and the virus.
“With a more precise assessment, however, a distinction can also be made quite reliably for those affected,” explains Prof. Ludger Klimek, President of the Medical Association of German Allergists in an interview on “Ökotest”.
Accordingly, those affected by the corona virus almost always have a fever, which is less common in hay fever.
Allergy sufferers also very often suffer from severe sneezing and runny nose – the nose runs constantly. Corona patients are less likely to observe this phenomenon.

Nevertheless, the experts have an important note for patients with inhalation allergies such as asthma: prescribed medication must always be taken consistently.
“Poorly controlled allergy sufferers, according to Prof. Klimek, have a significantly higher risk of developing severe Covid-19.”
