On Friday afternoon, the Surinamese government immediately revoked all permits issued for holding public entertainment in Suriname. This measure follows the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Suriname today. It concerns a person who came from the Netherlands.
In consultation with actors, it has been decided to take a number of increased measures. District Commissioner of Paramaribo Southwest, Eric Grauwde, indicates that all permits or permissions granted until further notice or further notification are suspended or revoked.
It is a meeting where more than 100 people gather. The citizen’s father asks for understanding and appeals to those who have had such a permit to follow up this decision and thanks them for their willingness to cooperate.
Further reports on this will follow.
