Otherwise we grumble when there are only new door locks or fresh colors for a major facelift. But for once it’s cool: Alfa dares to do something with the paint and has brought the old colors out of its history. The top versions of the Giulia limousine and the Stelvio SUV called Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) will therefore be available exclusively in the poison green of the legendary Alfa Montreal. The yellow tone called Ocra GT Junior or the sugar apple red of the former Alfa Romeo 6C 2500SS Villa d’Este Coupé from 1950 are just as daring.
But there is also something technically possible: the much criticized infotainment is being replaced; there is now a touchscreen with a screen diagonal of around 22 centimeters. To play around with, it also displays drive data such as torque, turbo boost pressure or acceleration and tempo profiles in real time. A few years ago, assistance systems were still senseless stuff for Harald Wester, head of development at Alfa parent Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). But with the facelift, Giulia QV and Stelvio QV now also master piloted driving according to Level 2, i.e. keeping their distance and lane – but the driver must keep his hands on the wheel. An assistant now also brakes braking and restarting in traffic jams.

When it comes to propulsion, the familiar remains: the 2.9-liter V6 with two turbochargers develops 510 hp and distributes its torque to all four wheels via 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It is finely distributed on the rear axle by means of so-called torque vectoring: the wheel on the outside of the curve receives a tick more drive torque for better traction in the curve. Optionally, a new Akrapovic titanium exhaust can be ordered. However, it doesn’t get any greener: Hybrid or plug-in hybrid will soon be available from the FCA sister brand Jeep and only later at Alfa Romeo. The factory consumption is 10.7 l (Giulia QV) and 11.5 l / 100 km (Stelvio QV).

The market will start as soon as the Alfa plants have fully awakened from the corona lockdown. Prices start at CHF 96,900 for the Giulia QV and CHF 109,900 for the Stelvio QV.
