Algeria’s New Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York: Amar Bendjama

Algeria has appointed its new permanent representative to the United Nations in New York. The lucky winner is Amar Bendjama, indicates the Official Journal in Algeria. The post had been vacant since the departure on March 16 of Ambassador Mohamed Nadir Arbaoui, then promoted to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s chief of staff. Bendjama is, like Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, a ghost. Since his departure in 2016 at the head of the Algerian embassy in France, he has remained without diplomatic activity.

Algerian media had bet on an appointment of the current Secretary General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amar Belani, in New York to better defend the positions of his country against the ambassador of the kingdom, Omar Hilale.

The permanent representative of Morocco to the UN in New York scored points during the direct and indirect exchanges of arms with Larbaoui on the question of Western Sahara. Testifies to this the Moroccan’s responsein June 2022, to “observer status” in the Western Sahara conflict, claimed once again by Algeria in a letter addressed by Nadir Larbaoui to the Secretary General of the United Nations.

In 2013, the Algerian media presented the appointment of Ramtane Lamamra to the helm of Foreign Affairs as a brake on Morocco’s expansion in Africa. Ten years later, they were disillusioned.
