Algarve has no new cases, Alentejo has 40 more

Today, the Algarve has no new cases of Covid-19, while the Alentejo registers over 40 infected people and one death, according to data from the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health of this Friday, 26 June.

In numbers accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic, the Algarve has 574 cases, the same as yesterday. In Alentejo, there are now 449 cases accumulated.

In the Algarve, DGS maintains the same 15 deaths. In Alentejo, the number of deaths rose to four today, one more than this Thursday. The death was that of an elderly person Reguengos de Monsaraz’s home where more than a hundred cases have been confirmed.

As Marta Temido, Minister of Health, revealed today at the pandemic balance press conference, there are already 128 cases in Reguengos de Monsaraz, associated with the focus of the local nursing home. This is the main contagion focus that is active in Alentejo, to which others, of smaller size, in Grândola, Elvas and Campo Maior, according to the Government member.

In the Algarve, the main focuses are related to the illegal party in Odiáxere, Lagos municipality, and two others, «one in Albufeira and another in Cabanas».

At the national level, the accumulated cases are now 40,866, 451 more than yesterday.

Across the country, 1555 people have died since the pandemic began, six more since yesterday, according to DGS.

At the level of people who have already recovered from the disease, there are already 26,633, 305 more than yesterday.

This Friday, the distribution of cases by region, in numbers accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic: Lisbon and Tagus Valley (18,106, plus 339), North (17,441, plus 69), Center (4056, plus 1), Algarve (574, without new cases), Alentejo (449, plus 40), Azores (148, plus 2) and Madeira (92, without new cases).

Today, 457 people are hospitalized in the country’s hospitals, 21 more than yesterday, of whom 67 are in intensive care (the same).

Also according to the epidemiological bulletin, there are 1561 people awaiting laboratory results and there are 31,246 contacts under surveillance by health authorities.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, there have been a total of 373,293 suspected cases, but 330,866 of them have not been confirmed.
