Alfa Romeo: in 2027 the E segment

After the good reception ofAlfa Romeo Tonalewhich has helped to increase volumes in Europe, the Biscione is preparing to to grow up also in the other markets. The goal is to reach 40% of the brand’s global sales outside Europe by 2030, compared to 18% in 2021. To reach this target, Alfa Romeo is preparing to enter the so-called segment Ethat of larger cars (about 4.8 to 5 meters long) where higher profits are generated.

The CEO of Alfa Romeo, Jean-Philippe Imparato, in an interview given to Automotive News on the occasion of the launch of the Tonale in the United States, he confirmed that the company, to expand on that market, is developing a new all-electric vehicle in the E segment engineered on the STLA Large platformwhose arrival is expected in 2027. However, the manager did not specify which bodywork he will have, but said that it will not necessarily have to be a crossover or an SUV. In any case, the executive underlined that the aerodynamic factor will be fundamental, thus also paving the way for a sedan (in the image above a rendering made by Motor.es). The type of bodywork and the design will be defined over the next year. It is therefore not certain that it will be a larger electric SUV than the Stelvio competitor of the BMW iX.

Alfa Romeo aims to become a brand that sells only electric cars by 2027. The first battery-powered car will arrive in 2024 and it will be there small crossover (B-suv) built in Poland and derived from the Jeep Avenger. In the 2025 on the other hand, the first dedicated electric car is planned, engineered on the specification STLA platform of the Stellantis group currently under development.

Learned specified that the electric models will make the sportiness their strong point. This means 800-volt platform, with recharging times of up to 18 minutes, and powers ranging between 350 and 800 hp. For the Quadrifoglio variants, it could reach a maximum power of around 1,000 HP.
