– Yes, we take one step at a time, says Alexander Wennberg. We had the big win in the playoffs last year, and to be in this kind of game now is also a step. I played in Columbus for several years (see above) and didn’t come close to playing an open air game. This is both fun and a great opportunity. Just seeing everything around and what an incredibly good job they did with this arrangement.
– It is my first outdoor match and I am impressed by how much they (the organizing staff) have done. To be a part of everything is super cool, to just soak it up. When we came in and got to test the ice, there was a lot of focus on everything around us, but when the match starts, the focus is there. So now we’ll see how much we can chip in and contribute as a team, says Alex Wennberg. The way the league looks right now, it’s a good position for us to come up with something good and to play good hockey.
The Seattle Kraken (14-14-9) are currently in fourth place in the Pacific Division, twelve points behind the leading Vancouver Canucks. In the Western Conference, the Kraken are just outside the playoff spot, so for Alexander Wennberg and his teammates, two important points are at stake in the internal game in the Pacific.
Alex Wennberg has his family, with wife Felicia and soon-to-be two-and-a-half-year-old son Rio in place; he tested the ice together with Rio and with two good friends who had come over from Sweden.
– Very funny. The boy can ride, but he likes to ride fast, so I have to watch out for that… I recognize all this from when I was a little boy; the rink I drove on back then was an outdoor rink, so it was a nice reminder of the good old days. In Columbus we had an outdoor rink that we did some training on. But besides that, it had been a long time since I played real ice hockey outdoors. I played a lot on frozen sea ice when I was a boy, but this… it’s something completely different.
