The coalition party Alexander Stubb and Pekka Haavistoset up by an electoral association, is competing to become Finland’s new president in the second round of the presidential election.

Alexander Stubb came in first place in the first election round with 27.1 percent of the vote, while Pekka Haavisto came in second place with 25.8 percent of the vote.

For many liberal voters, it was a relief that the True Finns Jussi Halla-aho failed to advance to the second round of elections.

At the same time, it is noteworthy that Halla-aho makes a choice that is unique to True Finns. Never before has a true Finnish presidential candidate managed to get as many percent of the voters’ votes as Halla-aho, who managed to reach 19 percent.

Olli Rehn, which was also put up by an electorate association, across party lines was clearly disappointed with its support of 15.4 percent. He said several times during the evening that he had hoped to be among the top two, who will advance to the second round of voting.

One who was even more clearly disappointed was Jutta Urpilainen, SDP, which received just over 4 percent of the vote. Thus, she makes a worse choice than VF’s Li Anderssonwhich represents a significantly smaller party.

But a presidential election is a personal election.

You also notice that if you look at how Åboland has voted.

Alexander Stubb has really gone home in the cabins, from Hitis to Houtskär. Especially in the Houtskär voting area, where more than 62 percent of the voters have given their vote to him. It is remarkable, especially since he has no particularly strong or clear Åbo connection.

It is a record in Åboland, where Alexander Stubb’s voter support is generally large.

Also in Iniö, Alexander stubb is the clear favorite, with over 58 percent of the vote.

In the voting area of Pargas, 43 percent of the voters have voted for him, while almost 48 percent of the Nagu people gave their vote to him as well as over 45 percent of the Kor people.

Also on Kimitoön, Alexander Stubb is the clear favorite, even in the old mill town of Dalsbruk, where about the same number of voters in the last parliamentary election gave their votes to SDP and VF as to SFP.

This time, Alexander Stubb gets over 38 percent of the Dalsbruk residents’ votes. It is the worst result for him in all of Åboland.

In the voting area Björkboda-Kulla, Alexander Stubb gets 46.5 percent of all votes, while over 48 percent in Kimito voted for him.

In the Kimito archipelago and in Västanfjärd, Stubb received 52 percent of the voters’ votes.

Alexander Stubb’s father Goran Stubb says in an interview during Svenska Yle’s election vigil that Alexander has always been energetic and determined.

Now it’s up to proof, also for Pekka Haavisto who has reached almost all the way in the past as well.

A few deep breaths for their campaign team and then it’s time for the final sprint.

At the same time, it is important to remember that the campaign is only a prelude to the real job of the President of Finland, which begins on February 11.

(The leader is written when 99.2 percent of all votes in the entire country have been counted, while 100 percent of the Åboland votes have been counted).
