Alex Springer withdraws from the stock market

After April 6, the German media group Alex Springer will no longer be a listed company. Now the focus is on becoming the “world market leader in digital journalism and digital classifieds”.

After 35 years on the stock exchange, the German media group Axel Springer has announced its withdrawal from the stock market. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange had already granted the company’s application to withdraw its listing, Axel Springer SE announced in Berlin on Wednesday. Springer shares can no longer be traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange after April 6, 2020.

“The farewell to the stock exchange heralds a new phase of growth for us. As soon as the situation has normalized again after the Corona crisis, we will put our entire focus on our ambitious goal of becoming the global market leader in digital journalism and classifieds, ”said CEO Mathias Döpfner on the decision. Last year, the Springer Group, which is known, among other things, for the brands “Bild” and “Welt”, entered into a strategic partnership with the US financial investor Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) with the aim of growing faster in digital.
