Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Chinese government on Tuesday (1/6/2021) said it had discovered the world’s first new H10N3 strain of bird flu infection (variant).
Citing the Straits Times, China’s National Health Commission (NHC) said in a statement: online that a 41-year-old man was hospitalized with symptoms of a fever, in the eastern city of Zhenjiang Province, on April 28 and was diagnosed with H10N3 a month later.
Even so it was reported that this new strain of virus is not so easily transmitted.
“The risk of large-scale spread is very low,” the NHC said in a statement. The NHC also added that the man was in stable condition and his close contacts had not reported any “abnormalities”.
Several strains of bird flu have been found among animals in China but mass outbreaks in humans are rare.
The last bird flu epidemic in humans in China occurred in late 2016 to 2017, with the H7N9 strain of bird flu. H7N9 is known to have infected 1,668 people and claimed 616 lives since 2013, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (WHO).Food and Agriculture Organization/FAO) PBB.
Meanwhile, in tackling the recent bird flu outbreak, the head of China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention last week urged tighter controls on poultry farms, markets and wild birds.
