Alec Baldwin Reportedly Offered ‘Rust’ Plea Deal

Alec Baldwin, the renowned actor, was allegedly offered a lenient plea deal for the infamous “Rust” shooting incident according to new court documents released on Friday. It is reported that the plea deal was withdrawn before Baldwin could make a decision.

The plea deal offered to Baldwin was intended to be identical to the petty misdemeanor deal accepted by Dave Halls, who served as the first assistant director during the shooting that tragically led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Halls received six months of unsupervised probation, a $500 fine, 24 hours of community service, and a mandatory firearm safety class.

The deal was on the table from October 5 and Baldwin was given until October 27 to decide, but prosecutors unexpectedly took the deal away on October 17. Baldwin’s team was informed that the case would be taken to a grand jury. The reason for this sudden change within that short window of time remains unclear.

In response to the charges, Baldwin and his attorney, Alex Spiro, filed a motion to dismiss the case. They claimed that the Santa Fe County D.A.’s office rigged the grand jury against Alec by presenting biased witnesses and omitting relevant evidence that could undermine the case against him. The filing also alleges that the D.A. failed to present the entirety of the testing that the FBI conducted on Baldwin’s firearm, which they believe would prove that the gun could have been fired without him pulling the trigger.

Baldwin’s case is scheduled to go to trial in July, and if found guilty, he could face up to 18 months in prison. He remains determined to fight the charges and is actively seeking the dismissal of the case before his court appearance to defend himself.
