Alec Baldwin Asks Judge to Dismiss Halyna Hutchins Lawsuit Filed by Family, Claims No Viable Cause of Action.

Actor Alec Baldwin has been making headlines recently for his involvement in the tragic shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his new movie “Rust”. Now, Baldwin is calling for the lawsuit filed by Hutchins’ family to be dismissed, saying it is “misguided”. In this article, we will delve into Baldwin’s statement and the reasons behind it, as well as explore the ongoing investigation into the shooting and latest updates from the case.

Alec Baldwin has requested the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by the parents and sister of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who died on set during the filming of the movie Rust. The lawsuit included claims of battery, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and loss of consortium. Baldwin’s lawyers dismissed the claims put forward by Olga Solovey, Svetlana Zemko, and Anatolii Androsovych as being without merit and driven by their desire to obtain compensation.

The family filed the lawsuit in February 2022 after Halyna Hutchins died on the set of Rust during the filming of a scene. The lawsuit alleged that Baldwin recklessly fired a loaded gun, causing the death of Hutchins and injuring Director Joel Souza. Loss of consortium is a claim that allows the plaintiff to seek compensation for damage to a relationship on which they mutually depend.

The court document presented by Baldwin’s lawyers, according to NBC, argued that the family had no viable cause of action against the actor since they were distanced from Halyna, emotionally, physically, and financially, before her death. Baldwin, in a separate suit, was sued by Halyna Hutchins’ husband, estate, and son, alleging that his reckless behavior and cost-cutting measures led to her death while shooting the film Rust.

Baldwin has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing relating to the incident and pleaded not guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter earlier this year. The plaintiffs allege that Baldwin’s reckless behavior and desire to cut corners led to Halyna’s death on the set of Rust, a claim that he has refuted.

Although the parties reached a settlement outside the court in October 2022, legal proceedings regarding Hutchins’ death and injuries resulting from the incident continue. The next court hearing on this case is scheduled for June 9th.

The death of Halyna Hutchins at the hands of Alec Baldwin has spurred multiple legal claims from family members and workers on the set of Rust. Baldwin, who was participating in a scene that involved the use of a prop gun, has received a significant amount of criticism over the event. The case also raises concerns about safety measures of handling weapons on movie sets, with calls for stricter safety legislation in the entertainment industry. Legal proceedings on this case are ongoing, with the next court hearing scheduled to take place on June 9th, 2022.
