Alarming Spike in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Cases in Banjarmasin: 33 Recorded, 50% Increase from Previous Year

Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Banjarmasin continue to increase, with 33 cases recorded, up compared to the previous year which was only 17 cases.

BANJARMASIN, KP – The number of cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) in Banjarmasin continues to rise. There has even been a spike, considering that currently there are 33 dengue fever cases recorded, an increase of 50 percent compared to previously only 17 cases.

“This increase is due to the influence of environmental factors,” said Head of the Banjarmasin Health Service (Dinkes), Tabiun Huda, Monday (19/2/2024), in Banjarmasin.

Apart from that, Tabiun continued, there have been two fatalities recorded due to the Aedes aegypti mosquito virus, aged 7 years and 18 years.

“One person is at Telaga Biru and the other is the Management. There is a densely populated area there. “The most cases are in West Banjarmasin,” he said.

“The person who died was because he didn’t know and came to the hospital late,” he added.

Based on this finding, Tabiun claimed to have carried out fogging or fumigation in the area where the case was found.

For this reason, Tabiun also ordered all his staff to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN) simultaneously, three times a week.

“But only those who are ASN are still working. Meanwhile the public watched. “You should not let the used bottles open and become a nest for mosquitoes,” he explained.

However, amidst the highly mobile Banjarmasin community, the spike that occurred was not much compared to neighboring areas.

“This means that PSN is quite successful. “Hopefully our rainfall will also decrease,” added Tabiun.

This spike in dengue fever cases could be said to be leading to an extraordinary event (KLB), but Tabiun explained that it was still too early to declare an outbreak, even though there was a spike in cases.

“Because the KLB has conditions, namely a double jump from the previous year in an area,” he concluded. (mar/K-7)
