Al Jazeera Journalist Shot by Israeli Military

Al Jazeera reporter, Shireen Abu Akleh, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers while covering in Jenin, West Bank. Akleh’s colleague who was at the location at the time of the incident, Ali Samodi, recounted the tense moments.

Told by Ali Samodi that he and Akleh at that time were wearing press vests that were clearly visible. On their helmets it is also clearly written that they are journalists.

“The occupiers (Israel) are murderers and criminals, they shot us for no reason. We, a group of journalists were there wearing our full press uniforms apart from helmets with the word press written in big letters. It’s obvious. We made sure to walk right in front of the patrol. soldiers so they can see us and they see us, after we go to the street where there are no armed people,” said Ali Samodi.

“We were shocked by the shooting. I was lucky and I turned my back when the first bullet was fired and hurt my back, they wanted to kill me. I was injured in my back and the second bullet shot my colleague Shireen and caused her death,” Ali Samodi continued. .

It was also reported that currently both Israel and Palestine are blaming each other for the incident. Israel also accuses the Palestinians of trying to avoid a joint investigation.
