Al-Ahly defender Mahmoud Metwally suffered a cut in the cruciate ligament of the knee during the team’s confrontation with Aswan in the twentieth week of the Premier League competition.
Metwally’s injury increased the Al-Ahly club crisis, especially in the African championship, so he meets Moroccan Wydad on September 25th, before the return leg in Cairo on October 3. While he is progressing well in the league championship, and needs to win 24 points, meaning victory in 8 matches out of a total of 14 remaining rounds in the league championship, to officially crown the 42nd title in its history.
In the event that Al-Ahly reaches the final match in the Champions League, they will meet the winner of Morocco’s Raja and Zamalek, as the Red Genie seeks to win its ninth African title, after an absence of 7 years.
Al-Ahly club had registered 26 players in the primary African list at the beginning of the season, before the arrival of Swiss Rene Fyler, adding Saad Samir to that list with the group stage, then the trio Kahraba and Badji, and Mustafa Schubert in the second registration period, to complete the list of 30 players.
Al-Ahly lost 7 seats so far, leaving it with 23 players on the African list.
Five-year loss:
Salah Mohsen went out at the start of the season on loan to Smouha after participating in the preliminary round matches against Kano Sport, Equatorial Guinea champion and scoring two goals with a goal back and forth, and then the name of Moroccan Walid Azaro was removed from the list in January after he left the loan at the Saudi Al-Ettifaq Club, to allow Al-Ahly To register his new deal at the time, Aliu Badji
The local regulation allows the entry of 4 foreign deals, in addition to a North African player treated as an Egyptian player.
The loan of Ramadan Sobhi, who expressed his desire to leave the Pyramids Club, also ended, as did Al-Ahly club informing the duo, Sherif Ikrami and Hussam Ashour, about the end of their season with the team, so that the team lost 5 seats for the players who left the team and are on the African list.
Two hits:
Al-Ahly lost its defender Saad Samir after he was injured in the Platinum Stars match by cutting the Achilles tendon, before Metwally lost recently to Aswan, the injury that ended his season with the Red Team.
Hussein Al-Shahat is scheduled to return to Al-Ahly training on the first of September in preparation for participating in the matches, while Saleh Jumah’s position is not yet clear, despite his return to training, as he has not participated in any friendly or official match since the beginning of the season.
Current list:
Al-Ahly’s African list currently consists of 23 players, 19 players, and 3 goalkeepers, which means that the team may be exposed to a crisis if any player is injured or suspended, in addition to the lack of alternative options available to Fyler during the crucial confrontations in the Champions League.
Al-Ahly Africa did not restrict Muhammad Mahmoud, or any of his youths, Arabi Badr, Muhammad Fakhry, or Shady Radwan, nor was Fyler’s final position on Saleh Jumaa clear, at a time when Mahmoud Kahraba would be absent from local posts due to his suspension, which would affect his readiness in African matches.
The remaining African list for Al-Ahly, which consists of 23 players, is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Mohamed El Shennawi – Ali Lotfi – Mustafa Schubert
Defense: Ahmed Fathy – Muhammad Hani – Yasser Ibrahim – Rami Rabih – Ayman Ashraf – Ali Maaloul – Mahmoud Wahid
Center: Aliou Diang – Amr Al-Soulia – Hamdi Fathy
In the midst of the attack: Hussein Al-Shahat – Ahmed Al-Sheikh – Muhammad Majdi “Afsha” – Walid Suleiman – Geraldo – Mahmoud Kahraba – Saleh Jumaa
