The Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Dr. Firas Al-Abyad, met with companies importing dialysis supplies, as part of a series of periodic meetings he holds to follow up on the continuity and availability of supplies in the Lebanese market.
The companies presented to the Minister of Health the difficulties they are facing with the Banque du Liban and the hospitals in terms of collecting their financial dues. The research dealt with submitting a proposal to the Council of Ministers to exempt kidney dialysis requirements from customs duties, similar to medicines.
Al-Abyad also met with importers of supplies for heart diseases to learn about the challenges they face at this stage. The meeting discussed proposed solutions to ensure that the local market is not interrupted by these essential supplies for heart patients.
The Minister of Health explained to companies importing dialysis supplies and those importing heart disease supplies, that follow-up is in place to address the issue of dues between hospitals and importing companies on the one hand, as well as financial matters between the Banque du Liban and these companies on the other hand.
