The penultimate episode of the TV program The world goes on was entirely devoted to Abdelhak Nouri. In the program, alongside father Mohamed and brother Abderrahim, Steven Bergwijn, Donny van de Beek and Frenkie de Jong, among others, joined, but the management of Ajax was not present. Mike Verweij, Ajax watcher of The Telegraph, says that the management of Ajax thanked because “Nouri had to be central and not the disagreement about the settlement.”
In a Q&A on Twitter, Verweij is asked whether Ajax has already responded to the episode of The world goes on. “Not official. But Ajax was invited to also have someone join the broadcast. The management thanked for this, because they believed that Abdelhak Nouri should be central and not the disagreement about the settlement. Ajax (naturally) gave Donny van de Beek permission to be present at DWDD and to talk about his good friend, ”says Verweij. The settlement of the case around Nouri was already criticized by the management of Ajax last week from, among others, Hugo Borst and Henk Spaan.
The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Nouri’s contract has been formally terminated. After all, professional football clubs must formally provide players with clarity about their expiring contract before 1 April, because otherwise the commitment will automatically be extended by one year under the same conditions. Ajax has always paid Nouri’s salary since the accident and will continue to do so until 1 July. By not renewing his contract now, a more favorable tax arrangement could be made.
Ajax remains in talks with the Nouri family to find a solution to the dispute in which both parties have become involved. The midfielder suffered a heart attack in Austria on July 8, 2017 during an exhibition game with Werder Bremen, after which adequate treatment by the medical staff failed to materialize. Ajax has acknowledged full liability for the latter, but to this day it has not yet agreed with the Nouri family about compensation.
Lawyer and advocate Khalid Kasem recently released the book Abdelhak Nouri: an unfulfilled dream on the market. It states that in the eyes of the family and the lawyer, Ajax does not want to come across when talking about compensation. In The world goes on Kasem already said that a legal procedure is obvious, despite the good relations with Ajax. Verweij already announced last week that a “quick deal” is not obvious.
