Feyenoord and Ajax made themselves heard in the weekend in which De Klassieker would actually be played. The arch rivals join forces with a statement of support for all healthcare workers.
“This weekend we are not facing each other, but we are going hand in hand together”, can be read on Saturday morning in a statement, in which the battle songs of both clubs are incorporated. “We don’t clap now for our players, but for all health care providers. Brave fighters, we are very grateful to you and wish you a lot of strength.”
The statement of support is not only distributed through the social media channels of both clubs and in the national morning newspapers, but will also be published as a moving billboard drive past various hospitals in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Feyenoord and Ajax would actually face each other on Sunday afternoon in De Kuip. Due to the crisis surrounding the coronavirus, however, football cannot be played in the Netherlands until 6 April.
The football world also showed solidarity with the care providers in the Netherlands earlier this week. For example, PSV announced that the stadium and the safety organization will be made available if necessary. Supporters of various clubs also put up banners at hospitals to thank the employees and to support them.

The coronavirus in short
- The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezing and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
- An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
- The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
- Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
- Read here what precautions you should take.
