airBaltic to launch flights to Greece in September – Tourism

The Latvian national airline airBaltic will start new seasonal flights from Riga to Thessaloniki in Greece from September 4, the airline’s representative Alise Briede informed.

The new flights will be operated twice a week with Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

From 13 August, airBaltic will also increase the number of flights on the Riga-Athens route to three flights a week.

Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, said that the demand for travel to Greece has grown in recent weeks, so airBaltic has adapted its route map and increased the number of flights to the most popular holiday destinations. At the same time, the airline continues to monitor the situation and adhere to strict security measures to guarantee the safety of employees and passengers.

As reported, airBaltic will launch direct seasonal flights from Riga to Rhodes in Greece on August 6. The new flights will be operated twice a week with Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

By the end of August 2020, airBaltic plans to connect the Baltics on 69 routes.

It has already been reported that in the first half of 2019, airBaltic carried 2.229 million passengers, including 528,449 passengers in June.

airBaltic’s audited turnover last year was 503.281 million euros, which is 23.1% more than in 2018, but the company suffered a loss of 7.729 million euros compared to the profit a year earlier. The airline forecasts that its turnover this year will be less than 200 million euros.

The Latvian state owns 80.05% of airBaltic’s shares, while the financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tussen, owns Aircraft Leasing 1 – almost 20% of the shares.
