The air traffic controllers stop for twelve hours. Alitalia cancels 128 flights. Cancellations also for Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air. But there are also guaranteed flights
The air traffic controllers’ strike on Monday 26 July will result in the cancellation of hundreds of national and international flights. There is no total balance of missed connections, since only one airline in Italy (Alitalia) provides the complete list. But from an estimate of the Corriere della Sera – by comparing the data available on the official websites of carriers, airports and on FlightRadar24 – at least 500 flights should be canceled with inconvenience for over 65,000 travelers.

Who protests
As confirmed by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and the Strike Guarantee Commission, national strikes by ENAV (the company that manages air traffic in Italy) and the Area Control Center are scheduled for July 26 of Milan lasting 12 hours, from 8 to 20. In parallel, the ground staff of the Emirates airline and the Cargo Plus company will cross their arms (for 4 hours, from 10 to 14), as well as the staff of the easyJet company, from 8 to 20. In any case, ENAC reminds you that during the strikes there are the protection time slots, from 7 to 10 and from 18 to 21, in which flights must in any case be carried out.

The connections
About 3,100 flights between national, international and cargo are scheduled in Italy on Monday 26 July. By restricting the field only to aircraft with Alitalia passengers, the only one to provide the list on its site, will cancel 128 flights, just under half of its daily operation. The company invites all passengers who have purchased a ticket to fly on July 26 (from 10 to 20) to check the status of their flight before going to the airport. Le low cost
Other companies, as written, do not publish any lists on their websites. The Courier service contacted Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet – the main low cost airlines in the country and in Europe – to get the number of canceled flights, but without obtaining a response at the time the article was published. Connections canceled also for traditional companies, in particular on Milan. Some other airlines, such as Volotea, will try to reduce the inconvenience by moving flights outside the strike time slot as can be seen by checking the Flight Status section of the site.

Guaranteed flights
There are also guaranteed flights even if provided during the strike. The list provided by ENAC (who) shows connections with the islands with a single daily frequency and clarifies that the arrival at their destination of all national flights in progress at the time of the strike must in any case be ensured. There will be 27 protected national flights, plus 7 with the Middle East, one with Southeast Asia, a couple with Japan and Korea, six with North America and two with Africa.
