“Air France-KLM in discussion with French government about capital injection” | NOW

Air France-KLM has asked the French government for a support package of several billion euros. The French-Dutch aviation company is also in talks with banks to take out a package of loans, the French newspaper reports Les Echos Friday evening.

In order to survive the coming months, the company needs a capital injection of several billion, according to the French business newspaper.

The company is said to have asked the French government to grant state aid immediately. The country may be willing to do this, the French finance minister Bruno Le Maire said on Wednesday.

The French and Dutch governments would also be willing to guarantee a package of loans totaling around 6 billion euros.

Air France-KLM, like other major airlines, is hit hard by the corona crisis. According to Les Echos the French-Dutch company loses 25 million euros every day due to the sharp decrease in the number of flights.

The French government currently has a 14.3 percent share of the airline company, while the Dutch state owns 14 percent of the shares.
