Last weekend Águilas FC were proclaimed champion of the Chitré District League after beating Balo FC 1-0 with a goal from Carlos Quintero. The final was played at the Los Milagros stadium in the province of Herrera, on Sunday, August 22 at 5:00 p.m.
Hours before the third and fourth place was played, at 3:30 pm Don Bosco Jr. took the victory on penalties against Balo Castilla.
Heading to the final
Both teams were in group A of the tournament. Balo qualified first with 9 points and Águilas in second position with the same amount of points.
Balo FC, meanwhile, had to face Balo Castilla in the semifinal round and Águilas against Don Bosco Jr. These games were played back and forth.
Similarly, these four teams were classified to the Herrera Provincial League next year.
Both Águilas and Balo won their crosses and end up crossing in the final. With a goal by Carlos Quintero, Águilas FC 1-0 remains champion.
First final and first title achieved
Luis Gutiérrez, Águilas captain, analyzed the season that the team lived by remaining champion of the tournament and how difficult it was to obtain this achievement: “For me it is a very important title, I have never had the opportunity to play in a final. It is also for the team the greatest achievement that has been achieved, it is our first final and we managed to become champions ”.
“The biggest challenge for the team was reaching the final, we knew there were very competitive teams. We set ourselves that challenge and we managed to meet it. The truth was a bit hard to believe. This is a competitive tournament with very good players. We had to believe in each one of us and work to become champions ”.
He also commented on what is coming next: “The next objective is the provincial league of Herrera. You have to play game by game and get between the first two ”.
