In the last few seasons, Kevin De Bruyne touted as the best midfielder in the Premier League. Former England player, Jamie Redknapp, thinks that the title now belongs to him Martin Odegaard.
Arsenal emerged as a strong candidate champion Premier League this season by topping Premier League standings. Odegaard became one of the key players behind Arsenal’s toughness.
The Norwegian midfielder has so far scored 10 goals and seven assists in the Premier League. Most recently, Odegaard contributed one goal when Arsenal won 3-0 over Fulham, Sunday (12/3/2023) evening WIB.
On the other hand, De Bruyne has only scored four goals in the Premier League this season Manchester City. However, in terms of assists, De Bruyne is ahead of Odegaard with 12 assists.
Jamie Redknapp thinks that currently there is no better midfielder than Odegaard in the Premier League. The former Liverpool player gave his praise for Odegaard.
“Right now he’s number one. There’s no one (better). Normally we’d say Kevin De Bruyne is the best midfielder, not just in the Premier League, but in the world, but something just wasn’t right. He didn’t play as much as he wanted, Redknapp said as reported by the Mirror.
“But Odegaard does this where — all the great players have — it’s like time stops when he has the ball. Most of the players (will rush to shoot), especially the midfielders because we are not used to that situation.”
“But the calm he has, he scores four or five goals like that with his left foot. He is the captain, the leader. Yes, for me he is number one (in the Premier League). He leads the team,” Redknapp said about Martin Odegaard.
