Again the fuss about further chalet plans

After years of debate about other projects that are already under construction or completed in the Oberpinzgau region, the next one is already known at Pass Thurn. This time it’s about a large area next to the middle station of the Panoramabahn, for which investors want the municipality to dedicate it as building land.

First discussions with neighbors took place a few weeks ago because the operator would need approval for an access road.

Lots of neighbors, hoteliers, innkeepers on the other hand

The Hotel Breitmoos has been around the Pass Thurn for decades. An operator would like to build the new apartments right next to it, says the Mittersill innkeeper Peter Neumaier, who as a neighbor of the area is strictly against the new buildings: “The neighbors who are directly affected by the whole thing are against it. Now a new project is to be started here – all over again. While you have already seen down there at Six Sense, nothing works on the construction site anymore. These plans are a huge issue for us in the population. Nobody feels comfortable anymore – one construction site after the other. It’s enough now. “

Mayor does not rule out project

The municipality decides whether there will be new reallocations from green to building land, as Mayor Wolfgang Viertler emphasizes: “When serious entrepreneurs come today, then it is very clear that you should listen to it and look at it. In the meantime, however, there is a healthy skepticism from the municipalities because the sensitivity of the citizens has changed. If it were to be implemented, a zoning procedure would have to be initiated, and we are still miles away from that. “

What’s next below?

The construction site for the controversial “Six Senses” project, where around 200 million euros are to be invested in chalets and tourist accommodation, is also near the Panoramabahn at Pass Thurn. There is still no sign of active construction work here after the lockdowns. In connection with the major project, a staff house is also planned, one hears from the region.

The mayor of Mittersill emphasizes that the mayor of Mittersill will only give the staff house once the “Six Senses” project is completed on this long-controversial topic.

Oberpinzgau as a new “gold mine”?

In general, inquiries and plans from foreign investors with domestic landowners would not stop, one hears from the region. Resistance from locals is also increasing all the time.

“One project now follows the next. The series apparently does not end. In addition to these several hundred planned guest beds directly at the middle station of the mountain railway, there is also the additional staff house for the neighboring project. The operator told us about these plans that this standard was necessary because the staff couldn’t be accommodated in the cowshed, ”reports ORF reporter Gertrud Stabauer from Mittersill.

The other company, which is now behind the further plans for apartments at the Hotel Breitmoos, said at the request of the ORF that there is still no fixed project, everything is “in flux”.
