The parliamentarians did not elect a president of the National Assembly in either the first or the second attempt. There are four candidates for the position.

Before that, the rules for the election of the president were voted on. According to them, the election should take place with more than half of the votes of the people’s representatives present. However, none of the candidates picked them up.

In the first vote, 103 deputies voted “for” Rosen Zhelyazkov, “against” – 86, “abstentions” – 51. Nikola Minchev was supported by 74 deputies, 29 voted “against” and 135 – “abstained”. “For” Christian Vigenin there were 27 deputies, “against” – 31,181 – “abstained”. 27 deputies voted “for” Petar Petrov, “against” – 94, “abstained” – 118.

After a pause, the deputies voted in the ballot. Nikola Minchev garnered the support of 98 deputies, 32 “against” and 110 “abstentions”. Rosen Zhelyazkov was supported by 103 people’s representatives, 85 voted “against”, 52 – “abstained”.
