1. AFC Ballbearings Schweinfurt 1985-2021
36 years of football history are coming to an end.
An eventful and moving season 2021 is coming to an end for us not only because of Corona. Because due to Corona, the 2021 season was replaced by a tournament in September in which the Ball Bearings competed one last time under her name.
What happened? In the past months before and especially after Corona, participation in training became increasingly weaker. Despite all the attempts by the department heads, the coaches and the remaining players, participation in training did not increase significantly. Not even when the restrictions imposed by the Corona rules were relaxed in June. Likewise, an extraordinary general meeting followed by a final deadline by the department heads could not contribute to the fact that the participation in training and thus the performance assessment could be increased.
In August, what many active had hoped to prevent became a reality. The club and the department heads drew their conclusions and implemented the resolution of the extraordinary general meeting: After the season, the Ball Bearing would play together with the Hornets under their name and logo.
Since the season was canceled due to the corona and was replaced by the “Bavarian Benefitz Bowl” on September 26th, this tournament should be the last time that the Ball Bearings would play together under their traditional name. With this in mind and with mixed feelings, we entered the tournament. What followed should be a memorable final chord in the history of our team.
A surprising number of players and even veterans responded to the call for a final joint “football battle” in the last training sessions before the tournament. Apparently nobody wanted to miss the chance to be there when the Ball Bearings hit the ball for the last time.
With the feeling of old solidarity, love of play and the vague hope of being able to build on old strengths, we started the group games of the tournament. Four great games later it suddenly became clear: we were the only team in the tournament to have played the group games without a single offensive counterpoint and with a balance of 52: 0 points are not only unbeaten and unchallenged at the top of the table, but also in the final of the tournament! What a worthy end to a long and eventful team history. Suddenly it seemed within reach, which no one would have thought possible a few weeks earlier when looking at the empty training grounds …
And when the scoreboard showed a deserved 18:06 at the end of the final, all the barriers of joy and sadness broke: We made it and once again showed what we are made of! The Ball Bearings bring the “Bavarian Benefitz Bowl 2021” to Schweinfurt and thus crown the achievements of all those involved at the end of their story.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all players, coaches and supporters who made this outstanding performance possible! Without you this would have been unthinkable! THANKS!
The department heads and the club would also like to thank all active players, veterans, coaches and supporters as well as all referees, organizers, league organizers and of course the opposing teams who have played American football for the last 36 years for Ball Bearings at such an unforgettable time have made. MANY THANKS TO YOU ALL!
BUT people who have been told dead live longer … as mentioned before, there will still be “Football made in Schweinfurt”!
We are very happy that we are now together with our friends from the Hornets Schweinfurt will play together! In the end, what belongs together grows together! We look forward to a successful and eventful time as a common Schweinfurt football team!
The advantages of this merger are obvious:
- The active players can be offered significantly better and more individual training in a more complex training environment.
- Better training results in a lasting reduction in the risk of injury.
- This gives the players more incentive to participate in training.
- The merger allows us to better promote the next generation: we offer young people the opportunity to train and play in several age groups.
The Ball Bearings are now saying goodbye to winter training together with the Hornets to prepare their return as a Schweinfurt football team.
