After Residents, Ethiopia Urges Veterans to Join War Against Tigray Rebels

ADDIS ABABA – Military Ethiopia had asked the former soldiers to rejoin the army in the battle to hold back the Tigray rebels.

The call came as rebel forces – led by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) – moved forward towards the capital, Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Defense urged veterans on Friday to reenlist in the armed forces to protect the country from conspiracies to destroy it TRT World, Saturday (6/11/2021).

The move came hours after nine groups that said they were fighting against the government would sign a deal in Washington to form the United Front of the Federalist and Confederate Forces of Ethiopia, according to a statement.

The new alliance is seeking to establish transitional arrangements in Ethiopia so the prime minister can depart as soon as possible, organizer Yohanees Abraha, who is with Tigray’s group, told The Associated Press’ new office late Thursday.

“The next step, of course, will be to start meeting and communicating with countries, diplomats and international actors in Ethiopia and abroad,” he said.

He said the new alliance was political and military in nature.
