After Huawei’s 5G, the EU and Nokia are preparing for 6G

No sooner had the deployment of 5G started than reflections began on its successor, 6G. Indeed, last January 1 was marked by the official launch of Hexa-X, the European Commission’s research project on the future technology of 6G and other technologies.

“The Hexa-X project aims to develop key technological tools in the fields of radio access technologies, artificial intelligence and 6G architectural tools (…) for the dynamic reliability of networks”, indicates a note of the European Union (EU).

The result of research by a consortium of telecommunications companies – 25 in total, led by the Finnish firm Nokia as coordinator of the project and the Swedish company Ericsson in charge of the technical direction – the EU 6G which is super fast announcement that 5G with internet speeds of up to 1000 gigabits per second should see the light of day in 2030.

With an investment cost of 11.92 million euros, or 7.82 billion FCFA, research on the Hexa-X project should last about 3 years.

Recall that long before the EU, in October 2019, Richard Yu, Huawei’s general public director, announced in an interview that the Chinese telecoms giant had already launched studies on 6G, a network that will be accessible in the air. , water, space and earth with a flow rate 100 times faster than that of 5G.
