After his success in Cuba, what does actor Erdwin Fernández do for a living?

Cuban actor Erdwin Fernández Collado was, without a doubt, one of the most popular faces on Cuban television in recent times.

He is especially remembered for his foray into the small screen in negative roles that marked his career, especially in soap operas and youth television series.

The only child of the marriage of actress Nilda Collado and Erdwin Juventino Fernández Sánchez, who immortalized the character of the clown Trompoloco, was born on March 19, 1962 in Havana City. While still very young, he joined the cast of serials, soap operas and dramatized programs.

The public remembers him for his performances in stellar spaces such as the novels Going Out at Night, Las Huérfanas de la Obra Pía, The Hidden Face of the Moon or the adventures The Legend of Lightning, The Medallion and The Prince of Foxes. But few know that Erdwin has also studied ballet and singing, and practices sports such as swimming, fencing and martial arts.

“I like all genres of acting, but my favorites are science fiction because it is visionary and adventures because I am passionate about them,” he told Cubaactores last year. “I have love and a career that is my passion, therefore I have an audience that I respect and I am sincere, I do not regret what I say or do,” she added.

As a result of the events of July 11, and the civic march called for November 15, Erdwin spoke out in favor of the Cuban people and against acts of repudiation of activists and opponents. From that moment he was very active through his social networks condemning the arbitrary actions of the Cuban government.

“The Acts of Repudiation… the Acts of Public Disorder, acts ‘punishable’ by Law, acts carried out in my opinion by rabble people, or by ‘educated’ cowards”, wrote at that time his Facebook profile.

“They want to sell us to the world as beasts capable of such barbaric acts, capable of disturbing privacy, of offending and hitting others. To give the image to the world that we Cubans are so poorly educated that we go over elementary laws and do not respect life”, he pointed out.

After the death of his mother Nilda Collado, the actor decided to leave the country. During an interview with presenter Alexander Otaola, he said that he went via Mexico, and was detained for a few days at the border “trying to enter a country illegally.”

“There has come a time when it became unbearable,” he argued about his departure and revealed that before leaving he had been summoned by State Security for having defended the position of actress Susana Pérez.

Cuban actor Erdwin Fernández in Miami

Erdwin arrived in Miami in January of this year with his wife Adriana where he was received and congratulated by many emigrant actors and actresses such as Larisa Vega, Ketty de la Iglesia or Roberto San Martín.

Shortly after his arrival, he was invited by Dianelis Brito and Mijail Mulkay to the Trail Theater for the premiere of the play “The neighbors from above”. “Carlos Otero, the first to worry about me. Tony Cortés, Bernardito Menéndez, Armando Tomey, La Casa de Maca, Lucila Granados, Marpez Sandra, Chano Isidrón and many more”, he referred to the meeting with old friends.

However, there has been no lack of criticism and detractors of his political position who have tried to sabotage his social networks.

A few weeks ago, Erdwin defended himself against several people who publicly harassed him, telling him that he would have to dedicate himself to carrying boxes to survive in the United States.

“What is so much prejudice about working? My family taught me that work, whatever it is, is wonderful, and they made my parents and me who we are. I am not afraid of life. Any work you have to do other than acting is welcome. It’s what they taught me, “he said on his Facebook profile.

“Many of you carry boxes, work in construction, or are retired and for me, for us they are just as important. Therefore, without fear: To work! ”, She concluded.

At the moment, Erdwin stands out as one of the most active public figures on networks regarding the situation of the Cuban people. In May he posted on his profile that he was immersed in “new projects, in a new life.”

“Today a wonderful day at the beach, in Miami Beach with my family. The Sun is the same, the Sea too. But all different. Hard-working people, very hard-working, and no one aware of your life, the new one. I wish and in my beautiful Cuba, where there are so many wonderful people, everything was the same, or different.
